Analytic Philosophy and Marxism

What is analytic philosophy? And what is its relation to marxism and the socialist movement?

When Marx wrote that “philosophers have hitherto only interpreted the world in various ways; the point is to change it”, he meant that philosophy as mere thought had no further role to play in the revolutionary movement, lest it become reactionary. He defended a dialectic of theory and practice. Adorno paid much more that just a tribute to that same dialectic when in 1968, after the failure of socialism, he described the arrival of a new age of philosophy: “Philosophy, which once seemed obsolete, lives on because the moment to realise it was missed.”

Analytic philosophy, however, continues to be wielded as a tool by those who today claim to want socialism. Why? How is the history of analytic philosophy tied to marxism and the history of the left? And what today is to be learned from it? What is not merely a symptom of failure and a taboo?
